Community service is an important part of the mission of ASG.
There are many ways to share your talents. Work with your neighborhood

please record your efforts on this form and send it to our Community Service Chair.
We report our hours to ASG National twice a year so they can track what our chapter has done. This
information helps ASG National not only by connecting with our communities and preserve our non-profit status.
Greater Seattle Chapter and ASG National Projects
Each year, American Sewing Guild sponsors a national community service project. In 2011, Seattle ASG sent 38 turtle pillows for needy children to The Painted Turtle Camp, a Paul Newman camp for seriously-ill children. The Houston Chapter, host of ASG’s 2012 annual conference, invites all ASG chapters to participate in The Blanket Project. ASG have selected three types of blankets: 1. Lap blankets for hospice patients, 2. Lap blankets for veterans (VA hospitals or other veterans service programs), 3. Receiving blankets for babies (indigent families). Each ASG chapter will support its own community by donating blankets locally.

Mattie's family supports a mission in Honduras by spending a week in village helping with healthcare,
child care, and dispensing clothing and goods not otherwise obtainable by the villagers. The most
coveted items that the volunteer group brings each year
are little hand-made dolls. The Bellevue
Neighborhood Group is making these gifts with the goal of giving one to each little boy and girl
in the village. The Doll Pattern,
Bandana pattern and
Instructions
are available here. (It is important to make these dolls consistent to avoid the awkwardness of
some with embellishments and others without.)
Pediatric Interim Care Center, The Newborn Nursery, (PICC) is a one-of-a-kind, model program
providing specialized, 24-hour care for drug-exposed and medically fragile newborns. Located in
Kent, PICC is dedicated to supporting infants through withdrawal offering state-of-art medical
and therapeutic handling techniques to ease the suffering of the little one.
PICC needs soft mattress covers made from double-sided white flannel. The mattress covers are
fashioned like pillow cases, making the sewing quick and easy. To participate, contact the
Renton-Southcenter Neighborhood Group.
Barbara Horton is collecting cat beds for the MEOW shelter. These specially-designed beds help the cats at the shelter feel cozy and secure, and they go with the kitty to its
adoptive home. They're easy to sew! If you're interested in helping, Barbara can provide you with the instructions and
information you need. You can make the beds at your own pace and coordinate delivery with Barbara. For more info, contact Barbara via email or give her a call for more info. (Her number is in your membership directory.)
