The Greater Seattle chapter of the American Sewing Guild

Community Service

Community service is an important part of the mission of ASG. We're working to find more opportunities for our chapter members to be involved. Strong interest in charity sewing and community service was expressed in our recent member survey!

Are you interested in being involved? There are many ways to share your talents. You can work with your neighborhood group (or any other of our groups) or work with a current project led by teams/individuals. We also have other opportunities for you to help.

Adobe Acrobat 5.0 or higher is required for these files. Get it free here.

Whenever you work on an ASG Community Service Project, please record your efforts on this form and send it to our Community Service Chair. We report our hours to ASG National twice a year so they can track what our chapter has done. This information helps ASG National not only by connecting with our communities but also is important for non-profit status.

green bullet ASG National Charity Sewing Project

Each year, American Sewing Guild sponsors a national community service project with presentation at the annual conference. This year, the Anti-Ouch Pouch was selected. This underarm hanging pillow fits snugly under the arm to cushion the underarm and breast area after breast surgery or during radiation treatment. The presentation ceremony will be held during the national conference in Chicago, IL in July, 2008.

green bullet Pediatric Interim Care Center

Pediatric Interim Care Center, The Newborn Nursery, (PICC) is a one-of-a-kind, model program providing specialized, 24-hour care for drug-exposed and medically fragile newborns. Located in Kent, PICC is dedicated to supporting infants through withdrawal offering state-of-art medical and therapeutic handling techniques to ease the suffering of the little one.

PICC needs soft mattress covers made from double-sided white flannel. The mattress covers are fashioned like pillow cases, making the sewing quick and easy. To participate, contact the Renton-Southcenter Neighborhood Group.
