There are three major independent skill sets needed to sew garments (apparel, clothing) well:
1. Sewing skills
2. Fitting skills
3. Pattern making skills
Many of us start with improving our sewing skills. After some experience in sewing garments, we soon find out that we also need to improve our fitting skills in order to be happy with the garments we make. But in order to utilize our fitting skills, we generally need to improve our pattern making skills. My goals for Fitting with Bobbie are to:
1. help fit garments on you and help transfer these adjustments to your pattern, and
2. help you learn how to fit garments (generally on someone else) and help you learn how to transfer these adjustment to the pattern.
Warning: This will take time, effort, and practice. So I am proposing periodic meetings in my atelier (workroom), in the Seward Park area of Seattle, to help achieve these goals.
There are many different methods of fitting – just look up books and websites about fitting. I use the method that works with my brain, which is Sarah Veblen’s method explained in her book The Complete Photo Guide to Perfect Fitting.
This “event” is still in the planning stage, so if you are interested, please let me know. There will be no charge for this “event”.
